Stranger

written in 1992
by David Ortmann
inspired by Emily Dickinson (I think)

Hey stranger!
I'm a stranger here too.
What color are you?
They tell me I'm blue.
Are you blue too?
Don't tell a soul!
They'll surely hunt us down.
(They're scared of us, you know).
Just take my hand.
Let's steal away,
to the shade of a friendly tree.
And there, I'll let you be you
if you let me be me.
